Goodbye

The course of my decisions in life
has caused me to fail myself before
and probably will again.
But I must be true to that which fills me
top to bottom…
and warns me to be myself,
when myself is lost in love,
and my love is lost in life.
Always in my life there was happiness,
there was warmth, so great, so strong,
never did I doubt,
Never did I toil so at the labor of love.
Never did the love of that labor cause me such aching,
such heart for the breaking.
Before now there was never such low self esteem,
such lacking of dreams,
never was such a feeling of hopelessness
in every day life,
Never was there the me that needed you
to see my own reflection.
There certainly never was.
So from here I will watch the descending relationship
and regard our failure as experience.
From here I will question my intentions
and seek my own future.
I am sure that from here
I will see another view of my reality
and perhaps my only companion will be regret.
But now I am certain
that I will always love you
and need you in my life as a friend.
I am certain that from here
two views we will be
and your view will be different
from the one that I see.
I am certain I must say goodbye
because I am not the one
to share your road in life,
Of this I am so sadly certain.
